Irish Brown Bread is a simple quick bread that is so easy to make from scratch


A dense, hearty bread with just a touch of sweetness. Slice it warm from the oven and serve with plenty of Kerrygold butter with any meal of the day. 

Although this Irish Brown Bread is a great addition to your St. Patrick's Day meal, it's so delicious that you will find yourself making it all year long. We love to serve it alongside Dublin Coddle or Irish Beef Stew for an amazing comfort food dinner. 



Irish Brown Bread ~ Made with Guinness Stout

Warm bread from the oven is a perfect way to round out any meal. A slice or two of this Irish Guinness Brown Bread is perfect to toast for breakfast or serve alongside any hearty stew. 

Ingredients Needed:

Whole Wheat Flour
Old Fashioned Oats
All Purpose Flour
Brown Sugar
Baking Soda
Baking Powder
Kosher Salt
Guinness Stout
Buttermilk
Melted Butter
Molasses

How to Make Irish Brown Bread:


In a large bowl add the dry ingredients: whole wheat flour, oats, all purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt.



Whisk together. 



In another bowl whisk the wet ingredients together: Guinness Stout, buttermilk, melted butter and molasses.




Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir with a dough whisk or wooden spoon to combine.




Grease a 9 x 5 inch bread pan.



Pour batter into pan and spread evenly.



Sprinkle with about a tablespoon or two of oats.



Bake for 45 minutes.
Run a knife around the edges of the pan to loosen.



Remove to a wire rack to cool slightly before slicing.



Serve with Irish butter like Kerrygold.

How to Store and Reheat:

Store cooled loaf wrapped tightly in plastic wrap at room temperature up to 2 days, but I bet it doesn't last that long. Store up to 4 days in the refrigerator.

Slice and toast to reheat or serve at room temperature.

Ingredients



2 ¼ cups whole wheat flour

1 cup old fashioned oats, plus more for sprinkling

¼ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup brown sugar

2 ¼ teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

2 teaspoons kosher salt

1 bottle 12 oz Guinness extra stout beer, room temperature

1 cup buttermilk

5 tablespoons melted butter

1 tablespoon molasses

Non stick cooking spray

Kerrygold Butter for serving



Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°.
In a large mixing bowl combine whole wheat flour, oats, all purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt.
In another bowl whisk together Guinness, buttermilk and molasses .
Stir into dry ingredients with a dough whisk or wooden spoon until well combined.
Coat a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan with non stick cooking spray.
Pour batter into pan and spread evenly.
Sprinkle a tablespoon or two of oats over the top.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Remove from oven and run a knife around the edge of the pan to loosen.
Slide loaf out onto a wire rack to cool.
Slice while warm or at room temperature and serve with butter.



Notes




Wrap cooled bread in plastic wrap and store at room temperature up to 2 days. Can be refrigerated up to 4 days.

Reheat slices by lightly toasting.
